Project details
The location of Club WATT in Rotterdam had been closed for two years when entrepeneurs decided to renovate the building as a new music venue. To help meet the city of Rotterdam's targets to cut 50% CO2 emissions by 50% by 2025, they took on the challenge of building the first sustainable dance club.
Process
SDC started with creative workshops on sustainablity and how it can be successfully integrated into a holistic business solution. That means People, Planet and Party have to be in balance, a combination that will lead to long-term Profit.
Through consultation with the organization of Club WATT we recommended which sustainable components to implement, and devised and adviceplan. The plan also gave suggestions on how the club could integrate sustainability in the structure of the organisation, and how best to communicate the message to its audience. Club WATT is now as sustainable as possible, but has written a sustainable business plan to help continually improve its efficiency.
Sustainable solutions
Club WATT makes substantial savings on the consumption of energy(30%), water(50%), CO2(50%) and waste(50%). In order to achieve these savings, the 'trias ecologicas' principle is used. That means:
- Reduce need for general consumption
- Produce as many of the resources needed sustainably
- Plough back the remaining resources as efficiently as possible
This method resulted in savings for the building and organization. You can read all the details in this
green handout.
